New Drawing Video!!!! This time at Century City Mall In Los Angeles

So I went to see Mission Impossible this past weekend at the AMC Century City. 'Twas' a cool movie! Afterwards I created my own festivities by drawing people right I front of the theater. The video shows a small section of the drawing session however it was a good session. I recommend drawing in public places to anyone interested in Building Confidence in your drawing skills. 

You learn how to draw people who are moving, ways to approach proportion, perspective, likeness, and lots of other great stuff. Drawings I did last night at the BAMA live figure drawing session in Berkeley. Instead of simply drawing the nude model I experimented around with creating action figures. I remember playing with 12 inch 1/6 scale action figure dolls in the 80's (and still do sometimes smile emoticon 
Done in pen, tempura, watercolor and gouache.

Cross Culture & Genre - Creative Figure Drawing

I haven't updated my blog in a while, been working working working on art. I will add all of the recent images as soon as I photograph them... quite a bit of stuff. Here is one of my recent creative figure drawings done at UC Berkeley. I've been experimenting around with a mixture of culture and genre. In this piece I examine what I call a "Sci Fi-Victorian" (Scitorian) lingerie garment, the Maroi culture tattoos and a Japanese anime Mecha head. Also mixing fine art genre with concept illustration.

Reportage Drawing in San Francisco/ One Day Workshop - session 1

This workshop aims to focus on loosening up and drawing complex scenes with energy and expression and without hesitation or fear. During this workshop you will learn various methods, techniques, tips and tricks for how to effectively and boldly draw buildings, cityscapes, moving people and cars. We will also be drawing while riding public transit buses and trains. I will be doing lots of demonstrations to show you how I draw on public transit vehicles.

This is for beginners who wish to develop confidence as well as the advanced who would like to break out of a rigid routine and draw more loosely.

Drawing at Toastmasters

I'm a member Toastmasters International and usually I can't draw because I'm busy listening to public speakers or speaking myself but this monday I attended a different groups meeting so I was able to get some practice in. These are four speakers I captured as they took center stage.

Top left: She was the Toastmaster for the evening. At the time she was reading the introduction for a speaker.

Top right: She was a speaker and did a great job.

Bottom left: She was another speaker who did a good job.

Drawing on Bart - Painting at home

I drew this girl on Bart and painted it at home.

My man Mike Alexander was doing a phone presentation for the company he works for so I used him as the subject of my "painting of the day." This is ballpoint pen and acrylic on paper. 11x14.

Working On The Self As SuperHero Public Mural

For the past month I've been working with AHC on the "Self As SuperHero Mural" in west oakland. We arrive at 8 am at the center, load the trucks with paint, scaffolding and other equipment, then head out to the mural site. We unload the trucks, set up the scaffoldings, get the tools to be used for the day and off to the races (we began painting).

This has been a really fun experience, I've learned a lot, made new friends and helped create a beautiful wall in West Oakland for the neighborhood to enjoy.

About the mural:
AHC went into West Oakland Schools and used a curriculum called, "Self As SuperHero" created by Amana Harris to get students to see themselves as superheros. The students designed the characters in the mural along with stories, those designs where passed to local graf artist Refa 1 to execute the final mural design.

I will post photos of the final mural once it is complete.

Cafe Drawing

I drew this man at Whole Foods cafe. I liked the gray trucker cap and grey hoodie against his flesh tones which is why I decided to draw em. Also I wanted the challenge of rendering his beard and curly hair. The next morning I painted the ballpoint pen drawing with gouache. This is a close-up, I will post the full drawing in a couple days.
